Led by senior Bryce Moragne’s 16-point night, Hillsborough improved to 22-3 on the season. Sickles (20-4) earned a 16-point game from junior Bryce Workman.
Here are the top 10 performers from this matchup.
MVP: Bryce Moragne (Hillsborough)
Bryce Moragne was the best player hands down for Hillsborough the entire night. The senior forward simply has fun out there. He had 10 first quarter points including two 3’s. He was held to six points after that, but he set the tone for his group from the early going.
Best offensive performance: Bryce Workman (Sickles)
Bryce Workman had six points after the opening quarter. He ended up with a team-high 16 points. The junior forward had a tough matchup against Zachary Carter, but he showed up more often than not on second chance points. Workman is very gifted near the rim.
Best defensive performance: Zachary Carter (Hillsborough)
Zachary Carter is going to UF to play football and on the basketball court, he’s helping the Terriers win the battle on the boards with his pure strength. The senior forward had eight points in this game. He dominated the rebound game.
Best intangibles: Tim Lawrence (Hillsborough)
Tim Lawrence was the next best thing other than Moragne for the Terriers. He scored 14 points, dazzled the crowd with some moves down low and stretched the floor with his outside shot. The 5’11” senior shooting guard is very poised.
Best under-the-radar performance: Dexter Stallworth (Hillsborough)
Dexter Stallworth didn’t do anything bad in this game. The Hillsborough senior had eight points. His two free throws with 17 seconds left put the Terriers ahead by four and what turned out to be for good.
Best catch and shoot guy: Tahj Lalanne (Sickles)
Perhaps the best shooter in this game was Sickles junior Tahj Lalanne. He had 14 points including eight in the second quarter alone. Lalanne was making nearly everything that he put up.
Best worker: Denari Garrett (Sickles)
This should have been a six-point outing for Sickles junior forward Denari Garrett. He missed a two-handed slam and the crowd erupted immediately. He had four points. He’s lengthy, athletic and once he develops a jump shot, he should be a very good player.
Best attacker: Marcus Cohen (Sickles)
Marcus Cohen picked up only four points, but the senior guard dribbled the ball up the court on most possessions and the offensive’s sets picked up as the game moved along. Cohen is very gifted.
Best energy: Bryce Beamer (Sickles)
6’6″ senior Bryce Beamer couldn’t find his shot for most of the night, but he kept up the pace on his offense. He finished with seven points including a big 3-pointer in the third quarter as Sickles made it closer.
Best athlete: Myles Cowart (Hillsborough)
Junior guard Myles Cowart came off the bench and did his part. He had only three points coming on a second quarter 3, but Cowart helped distribute the ball when he was out there.
