The Dreadnaughts (9-6) were helped by Luke Anderson’s 21 points. Javon Bell scored a team-high 10 points for Santa Fe Catholic (6-2).
MVP: Luke Anderson (Lakeland)
On top of his 21 points, Lakeland sophomore big man Luke Anderson recorded eight rebounds and a steal. He had two quick fouls and exited the game early in the second quarter, but he bounced back. Anderson missed all three of his 3-pointers on the night, but everything else was working for him inside even over two defenders.
Best offensive performance: Tevin Booker (Lakeland)
Tevin Booker gave the Dreadnaughts great minutes. He paced Anderson with 12 points including 10 in the second half alone. He hit two very important 3’s and helped Lakeland really push the floor. Booker is a key junior contributor.
Best defensive performance: AJ Davis (Lakeland)
A highly sought after football prospect, senior AJ Davis is a scrappy guard for Lakeland. He only scored six points, but his five rebounds and three steals really helped the cause.
Best attacker: Keavis Dyer (Lakeland)
The second best sophomore besides Anderson was Keavis Dyer. The forward had eight points and kept Lakeland somewhat in control in the second quarter with Anderson in foul trouble.
Best intangibles: Javon Bell (Santa Fe Catholic)
Javon Bell did his part for the Hawks with 10 points which included three 3’s on the night. Bell is a gifted shooter and someone Santa Fe Catholic will lean on a ton.
Best under-the-radar performance: Marcus Parks (Santa Fe Catholic)
Much like Bell, senior guard Marcus Parks flashed his ability to shoot from outside. He had nine points including six in the opening quarter alone.
Best catch and shoot guy: Javon Bell (Santa Fe Catholic)
Bell, Parks and Booker were the three best distance shooters on the floor. Javon Bell gets the nod here simply because he made three 3’s, the most on the night.
Best underclassmen: Malique Calixe (Lakeland)
Malique Calixe made his biggest impact in transition for Lakeland. The sophomore guard had a pair of steals and four points. Calixe is going to get better time and that bodes well for this team.
Best energy: JD Brown (Lakeland)
JD Brown is an important player for the Dreadnaughts. He’s not the best shooter on the team or the top athlete, but he has pure speed and he hustles non-stop. Brown scored eight points and really helped the tempo in the second half.
Best athlete: Kareem Alamm (Santa Fe Catholic)
The 6’0″ senior point guard is one heck of a dribbler and commander of an offense. Alamm scored six points against Lakeland and ran the Hawks offense with ease, making things happen as an attacker inside.
