Freshman forward Reagan Weiss led the Panthers (8-13) with 17 points while Javier Spires also had 17 points for the Knights (12-10).
Here are the top 10 performers from this matchup.
MVP: Reagan Weiss (Plant)
Only a freshman, Reagan Weiss started this game on absolute fire with 11 of his team’s 19 first quarter points. The 6’5″ forward ended up with 17 points, but he found his shot late and Plant benefited. Weiss is on track to be a very solid player as long as he continues to put together games like these.
Best offensive performance: Javier Spires (Robinson)
Lengthy as they come at 6’7″, Robinson senior forward Javier Spires was making shots from outside and inside for his team. Spires finished with 17 points and I thought he could have had more if he decided to attack rather than settle for a couple of jumpers. Either way, Spires has so much untapped potential at this point.
Best defensive performance: Ronald Boyd (Plant)
Junior guard Ronald Boyd was flying up and down the court. He certainly gave Plant tough minutes. Boyd scored 13 points in this game including six in the fourth quarter alone. At 6’1″, Boyd is a nice guard to monitor in the 2018 class.
Best intangibles: Murad Berrien (Robinson)
Right behind Weiss and Spires was Murad Berrien. The sophomore recorded a 16 point night, nine of which he added in the fourth quarter. Berrien isn’t intimidating at 5’10”, 145 lbs., but he can weave through defenders with his pure athleticism. He did that tonight.
Best under-the-radar performance: Bobby Gough (Plant)
One of many young contributors for Plant, sophomore forward Bobby Gough quietly scored eight points in this game. Six of his points came in the third quarter as he ran the floor and his teammates found him open. Gough is a sound player.
Best catch and shoot guy: Logan Morrissey (Plant)
Logan Morrissey is a sophomore filled with potential. His outside shot is deadly. He hit two 3’s in this one and a layup on a nice feed inside to end up with eight points. Morrissey is going to get better once his game expands but right now his jump shot is his biggest asset.
Best underclassman: Quinton Lane (Robinson)
6’2″ sophomore guard Quinton Lane had his moments in this one with five points. His free throw shooting wasn’t too kind to Robinson’s late rally attempt, but overall I thought Lane gave his group plenty of power throughout.
Best attacker: Kris Terry (Robinson)
Kris Terry is a crafty player at 6’4″. When he gets into the paint, he can do damage. The senior added 11 points in this game and if he can continue to work hard inside, he should earn some looks from programs at the next level.
Best energy: Wills Epps (Plant)
Senior guard Wills Epps is listed at 5’8″. He certainly didn’t take advantage of his attacking chances, but he was hitting from outside. Epps paced the offense and finished with a solid nine points for the Panthers.
Best athlete: Alvertus Parker (Plant)
A cornerback for the Plant state football team, Alvertus Parker had only two points in this game. However, his speed was impressive on the floor and the senior found open space more often than not which helped him dish the ball out.
