MVP: Yabdiel Melendez (Cypress Creek)
Melendez brought a buzz to the gym in the 3rd quarter where it seemed like every defensive possession finished with a steal from Yabdiel leading to a breakaway layup and one every single time. He finished the game with 4 steals. He was able to finish at the rim with contact with ease. It was an impressive performance from the Senior guard.
Play of the game: Yabdiel Melendez (Cypress Creek)
I will give this to Yabdiel for a combination of steals and fastbreak layup and ones that got the gym energized and closed the game out.
Best offensive performance: Yabdiel Melendez (Cypress Creek)
Yabdiel led the game in scoring and took over in the third which sparked the game-clinching run for Cypress Creek.
Best defensive performance: Brandon Ishmael (Cypress Creek)
The senior point guard was a pest on defense, tallying up 4 steals in the game. He caused havoc all night and made it impossible for the Harmony backcourt to bring the ball up.
Best guy off the bench: Carmelo Velez (Cypress Creek)
Carmelo came in and provided a spark for his team, including a couple of three-point field goals.
Best intangibles: Mcleon Charles (Cypress Creek)
Charles a 6’4″ Senior guard can get to the basket with ease, he makes the right basketball play time and time again. He could lead his team in scoring every night but he chooses to make the smart play and pass to an open teammate.
Best under-the-radar performance: Carmelo Velez (Cypress Creek)
Carmelo did a good job scoring off the bench, and had an impressive shot.
Best underclassmen: Tyrell Pendergast (Harmony)
Tyrell had a solid showing off the bench, grabbed a couple rebounds to go along with 2 steals and 5 points.
Best rebounder: Jose Guadalupe (Cypress Creek)
Jose is not afraid to get in the paint and make the dirty plays. He boxes out and holds his own down low.
Best coaching decision/strategy: Coach Ben Witherspoon (Cypress Creek)
Cypress turned up the pressure in the second half, they were relentless on defense with their full court traps making it really difficult for Harmony to get into any rhythm offensively.
