And here are 5 players who made notable climbs in ranking, and that are sure to be names to watch out for during the 2016-2017 basketball season.
Steven Fitzgerald, Pulaski County High School, (6’4, SG – Louisville Magic AAU)
Old Rank: 2 New Rank:1
After a summer that saw high majors from all over take notice of his game, Steven Fitzgerald has taken the top spot among the 2018 class. Fitzgerald transferred to Pulaski County from Southwestern (Pulaski) and is currently averaging 27 points per game at a rate of 60% from the field. Fitzgerald has taken visits to Indiana, North Carolina State, Vandy, WKU, among many others, are all interested in the shooting guard.
Detorrion Ware, Christian County High School (6’4, F)
Old Rank: 28 New Rank: 9
Averaging over 20 points and 8 rebounds per game to start the season, Ware made one of the more significant jumps in the 2018 player rankings. He has an offer from (NCAA DI) Southeast Missouri.
Whyatt Battaille, Pikeville (6’5, SG – Louisville Lightning AAU)
Old Rank: 20 New Rank: 18
Battaille is having an outstanding start to the Kentucky high school basketball season, averaging 24 points per game, shooting 67% from the field in three games. His combination of being a shooter with length has also allowed him to average over 7 rebounds per game. Over the summer Battaille caught the eye of many mid-major schools, including Mercer, who offered.
Stephon Franklin, Louisville Doss (6’0, Guard)
Old Rank: 19 New Rank: 16
After helping lead Louisville Doss to the Kentucky state tournament last year, Stephon Franklin looks to lead his team back there again. Franklin is averaging 19.2 points per game thus far.
Jake Walters, Covington Catholic (6,8 Foward)
Old Rank: 36 New Rank: 24
Covington Catholic is 6-0 to start the season and the big man down low has become a big contributor to that undefeated record, averaging 7 points and 7 rebounds, at a rate of 67% from the field.
