Continue ReadingWe saw these two teams play against each other during the preseason in Jamboree which ended up being a very competitive game, so going into the season we knew this game would be a good one and folks around the city were looking forward to it. Fayetteville Academy would take control of the game in the first half and would hold on to the lead for a large portion of the game. However Trinity would go on a run of their own and in the final moments they would convert on key plays that would allow Trinity to take home the win 60-55.
- Game Changing Performance: After being hampered with foul trouble in the first quarter, Josh Nickelberry put on a scoring exhibition in the 3rd quarter that would help Trinity take over the lead and momentum. He showed the ability to knock down tough shots, as well as finishing after contact, once Josh gets it rolling then he is a tough player to check.
- Player Of The Game: This young man provided much needed consistency for Trinity, with the teams two top scorers both battling foul trouble, Greg Gantt stepped up big time. He has a very good feel for the game and can play 3-4 out of 5 positions on the floor. He shot the ball well from mid and deep as well as playing through contact inside. He would finish with 15 points on the night and it now seems as if he has found ways to make a major impact on this loaded Trinity squad.
- Best Senior: No question about it, this award goes to Fayetteville Academy Senior Jon Gauer, Jon was feeling it in the first half, he got to the basket, knocked down three treys and played solid defense to help FA build a 8 point lead going into the half. Although his squad came up short, he played with high intensity and stayed aggressive throughout, he still unsigned but has received D2 interest.
- Stock Riser: Fayetteville Academy 2019 F William Onyeodi showed some flashes of how good he can be, in the first half he threw down two strong dunks in transition to bring the crowd to their feet. In the 2nd half they went to him In the post and he converted on back to back difficult plays in the post, once he slows down and just plays the game, things will be much easier for him and he will have colleges calling on a regular basis
- Best PG: Fayetteville Academy 2019 PG John Michael Wright, the one thing that you have to love about this young man is how much he enjoys to compete and his desire to have the ball in closing moments. He didn’t have his best scoring night but stayed aggressive on both ends of the floor and did a very good job of not turning the ball over as well as getting teammates involved.
