The Hurricanes have started the season strong, posting a 6-1 record thus far. They’re looking to improve on a 2015-2016 campaign where they went 25-5 and made an appearance in the Class 6A regional final.
Last Tuesday night, Scott’s play helped the ‘Canes notch a 62-34 win against district foe Lake Weir.
It wasn’t his scoring that made him the player to watch during this matchup. Although, a ten-point outing is still respectable. It was Scott’s ability to make his mark on the rest of the stat sheet which allowed him to stand out.
Standing at 6’3”, 165 pounds, the senior notched three steals, three assists, two rebounds and one block—all while committing just one turnover the entire game.
On a breakaway Lake Weir layup, Scott earned one of his blocks by coming around the left side of the rim-attacker and completely stuffing his shot. In that same motion, he manage to steal the ball with the same hand and lead his own fast break, resulting in one of his three assists.
While he’s proving himself worthy of some looks on the court, Gainesville head coach Kelly Beckham sees a lot of positives in his personality off the hardwood.
“Kaijon exhibits great leadership skills, not only through his work ethic, but in the way that he communicates with his teammates,” Beckham said.
At the moment, he’s received some interest from Marietta College, University of Ohio and Sage College of Albany, New York.
What will be pivotal for Scott is whether or not he puts on a bit of healthy muscle. Couple that with a desire to be any and everywhere on the floor, and Scott should have a great shot a playing ball at the college level.
