The junior Middleton starter recorded 17 points in a 55-44 loss to Hillsborough on Wednesday night. He hung tough with two-sport athlete and UF commit Zachary Carter for much of the night on offense and defense.
At 6’4″, 190 lbs., Smith showed off his post skills and handles. He led the charge for the Tigers throughout this one and flashed a ton of grittiness.
Since the summer, Smith has been focused on this.
“I’ve become more comfortable dribbling the ball and pushing the ball,” Smith told Prep Hoops Florida. “I’m trying to become a guard like player and be well balanced and able to dominate at will. I worked on strength, ball handling and shooting. Now, I’m working on my post moves.”
Middleton only won one game a year ago and so far this season, the Tigers have just one win as well. No matter how the season plays out, Smith is a kid who can flat out play. He told me has no offers or interest yet, but I think he could be a perfect fit a lower Division-I school or Division-II program.
Smith is a 2018 forward to keep an eye on because of his solid mixture of ball skills and post moves.
