“I would definitely say one of my best attributes on the floor is my pull-up jump shot,” Mathis said. “That’s my go to, and on the floor, I am a true point and do my best to make the right decision. Whether that’s me distributing the ball, or going to get a bucket, I do what is best for the team.”
Mathis says he and his team have gotten off to a good start on the season.
“The season has started out well; I had 23 the first game, 22 the second game, and 20 our third game,” Mathis stated. “Our record is 2-1. We lost our first game by one, beat Seneca as our second game, and went up to Ohio and beat Blanchester as our third game. All those games were games that went down to the wire.”
In the classroom at the private school, Mathis says he is a hard worker.
“With KCD being a private school, I take my school work very seriously and play no games in the classroom,” the player noted. “Although I don’t know my GPA at the moment, I am an A/B student. I work very hard in the classroom, doing best to make A’s and B’s.”
Although he hasn’t received his first direct offer yet, Mathis says he has been shown interest from multiple schools in Miami (Ohio), Kent State, Indiana Wesleyan, Valparaiso and Pennsylvania, and says that more coaches and programs should start to reach out because his game sits apart from other players’.
“College coaches should come see me play, because nobody has a unique game like mine,” Mathis added. “Not too many people can stop on a dime and pull-up like I can. Not too many people take privilege in shutting down the other teams best player like I do. And to be honest, there are not too many true point guards that are out there and are as gritty as me. That’s why college coaches should come watch me play and see what type of game I have.”
