The 5’8″, 135-lb Berkeley Prep freshman through four games this season has performances of 15, 12, 11 and nine points. 44 of his points have come from 3-point land where he’s shooting 42 percent.
He connected on four triples in the second half in a 61-44 win over district rival Brooks DeBartolo on Thursday night. Earlier in the week, Karnes made five in a loss to Cambridge Christian.
The younger brother of junior starter Kaleb Karnes, Kegan is being taken for granted this season. Teams are looking at him and basically saying, he can’t do much simply by his stature. But right now, he is making defenses pay from the perimeter.
“I couldn’t have played the way I did without the help of my teammates,” Karnes said about Thursday’s performance. “We had great ball movement and we controlled the pace of the game. It was a great win against a tough team in our district.”
Karnes is confident for being this young and a lot of that has to do the environment he’s in. He is a starter alongside his older brother and a Berkely Prep bunch that competes in the postseason year in and year out.
Look for Karnes to have a big season for the Buccaneers. Right now, he’s the team’s third leading scorer.
