The Tampa Catholic junior spurted from 5’8″ to 6’0″ this off-season and on Friday he showed off his ability to score when called upon. Robinson had seven points on 3-of-4 shooting from the floor along with two rebounds and two assists in a 77-72 win over East St. Louis at the City of Palms Classic in Ft. Myers, Fla.
In a rotation with juniors Tai Strickland, Tim Carter and Messiah Turner, Robinson provides the Crusaders with plenty of speed and ball movements when he enters the game.
He says he learned a lot from the older guys last season. Robinson had three games with 10 or more points off the bench as a sophomore.
“This year my coaches still want me to shoot and play defense but also to play smart through the offense and try to make plays to help us win,” Robinson told Prep Hoops Florida.
Here’s how he’d break down his own game.
“I think I’m a great shooter and I think I have a good basketball IQ,” Robinson said. “I can run the floor, pass and play solid defense. I’m looking to get my shot more consistent and I’m looking to be more aggressive and always be in attack mode.
“Also, I want to build confidence in myself to know I can play with all the top players and be able to make the right plays all the time.”
No offers have come for Robinson just yet, but he’s drawn interest from Rhodes College. Anyone who plays alongside top-ranked senior Kevin Knox will be overshadowed, but Robinson is one of many speedy junior guards that know how to work the ball around. He always gives you good minutes when he checks into a game.
