The 6’2″ senior is a major factor for Wharton. The Wildcats improved to 4-0 on Tuesday night with a 58-42 victory over district rival Wiregrass Ranch.
Barnes had a team-best 16 points against the Bulls. He certainly showed up time and time again whenever the Wildcats needed a play.
He had seven points in the second half and really helped control the tempo for the Wildcats offense. His speed is lethal.
Although Barnes has no offers or interest, he says he feels like if he keeps bringing it every game that they will come.
I honestly can’t agree more. Alongside Darin Green, Isaiah Thomas and the rest of the athletic Wharton bunch, Barnes really fits the mold of a reliable two-way player.
Here’s what he had to say about his progression since this summer.
“My comfort level right now is higher than it was in the summer,” Barnes said. “I have a bigger role and the work I put in has really paid off and made me a better all-around player.”
When you are a good player, you generate interest. Barnes doesn’t have that yet and it is hard to figure out why.
More college coaches need to be watching Wharton basketball this season. This kid has serious wheels and can knock down a shot from anywhere on the court. Barnes is a senior who will draw plenty of looks here this season as he breaks out.
