A year ago, the 6’5″, 205-pound Tampa Prep forward didn’t play much as he battled a foot injury and a nagging illness.
On Saturday, he recorded a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds in a 65-22 win over visiting Bell Creek.
Scriven has come on to open the season and he looks the part. He has good instincts in the post and as an outside shooter. He played an aggressive style of basketball alongside big man Trey Sibert.
“The season has been going great for us so far,” Scriven told Prep Hoops Florida. “I know a lot of people worried about us not having played together in such a long time, but I think we got much more out of practice than we would have a preseason.”
After choosing to hold practices instead of a preseason classic, Tampa Prep has found themselves in a clear rhythm to open the season. Scriven has played an integral role.
“Personally, I’ve felt a lot more confident this year and that’s just helped me to play better and make smarter decisions on the court,” he said. “My main focus now is running the floor and staying out of foul trouble.”
Our guards know what they’re, so as long as I do those things there will always be an opportunity to score. We’ve got some tougher games coming up on our schedule, so I’m looking forward to that too. Really I’m just trying to enjoy my last season.”
With Jaren Phillips, Amari Goulbourne and Sibert, the Terrapins have four legitimate athletes to count on.
Scrivens is a guy to watch this season alongside the other key starters. He has no offers or interest yet, but expect that to change.
