The sophomore stands at 6’0″, 155 lbs. and doesn’t get taken seriously by too many defenses because of it. However, he can flat out shoot the ball.
After averaging 12.5 points per game as a freshman for the Cougars, Royal has come on strong from long range. He’s making just over 33 percent of his 3’s.
On Wednesday night, I had the chance to see him for the first time. Royal put together a season-high 14 point night and he routinely hit 3’s when given open space.
Highly touted junior guard Berrick Jeanlouis set Royal up time and time again in the second half with no look passes.
Along with fellow sophomore Thomas Pritchard, the Cougars have two underclassmen to rely on.
Royal will draw attention simply with his ability to shoot the rock. As he gets stronger and finds his way as an attacker that’s when he’ll be counted upon more.
