The 6’1″, 184-pounder is averaging 14.6 points, 6.9 rebounds, 2.8 assists and 2.0 steals per game this season for East Lake (6-4).
Hillmon dropped 29 points in an overtime loss to Golden Gate last Friday night and really flashed his court awareness all game long.
He says his group has started slow this season, but things are picking up.
“We had so many new pieces and we were trying to find where to fit players in that they can help the team,” Hillmon said. “Over the break, I can see the team chemistry getting better and us coming together.”
Here’s how Hillmon would break down his own game.
“I have a fast pace up and down,” he said. “I can get a rebound and go coast to coast like a Russell Westbrook but not on that level yet.
“I’m looking to get better at being more consistent with my 3-point shot. I’ve improved how I can come off of a screen and read defenses when to either attack or shoot a jumper.”
Hillmon joined SEBA Select last summer to play for head coach Rick Thorpe. He calls the team a family and mentioned the talent currently in place in Jaylin Jackson, Caleb Young, Ricardo Clouden and David Pierce.
No offers or interest have come for Hillmon just yet, but his grittiness will go a long way. The junior guard is getting stronger in the weight room and that is translating to more buckets for him.
Hillmon is flying under the radar in Tarpon Springs, but he shouldn’t anymore.
