The 6’3″, 190-pounder came down to Florida to join forces with his good friend and fellow Canadian R.J. Barrett, one of the top sophomores in the nation. Seniors Sandro Mamukelashvili and Grant Shepard and sophomores Rechon “Leaky” Black and Jake Betlow are four other newcomers on the Montverde roster this season.
After playing at Vaughan secondary school in Markham, Ontario, Nembhard made the move to Florida to play for one heck of a coach in Kevin Boyle. He’s someone who always puts together a contender at Montverde.
On Monday night, Nembhard made his City of Palms Classic debut, a tournament in which the Eagles have played in for a while and have won in 2012 and 2013. Nembhard showed his efficiency with 10 points on 3-of-4 shooting.
He also grabbed four rebounds, dished out two assists and had one steal in just over 17 minutes in a 76-45 victory over Jonesboro (Ga.).
Currently, Nembhard holds eight offers from Stanford, Florida, Virginia Tech, Baylor, Missouri, Vilanova, Oklahoma and USC.
Much like his Canadian counterpart Barrett, you have to think Nembhard will only draw more attention now that he’s playing for the Eagles. Seven of the offers came this summer with the most recent one being Missouri in September.
Nembhard has nice range and instincts around the court. His basketball IQ is through the roof and he should get even better this year playing alongside so many athletes at Montverde. The sky is the limit for this kid.
