Prep Hoops KY GameDay Preview: Central Bank Classic – Pulaski County vs. Lexington Christian
The 2016 Central Bank Classic, hosted by Lexington Christian Academy, is off and running. Yesterday (December 20th) kicked off the 2nd annual event, with Pulaski County knocking off Franklin County in the first game, Jeffersontown taking down Newport in the second game.
Today’s match-up between Pulaski County and the home team host, Lexington Christian, will pit some of the state’s top college prospects (at any level) against each other.
PULASKI COUNTY
Pulaski County is 7-2 to start the 2016-2017 season. They lost to state championship contender Trinity (Louisville) and national power Capital Christian Academy (Maryland). Today’s game will be yet another test of the Maroons’ might.
Prospects:
Steven Fitzgerald – Kentucky’s Top 2018 ranked player and shooting guard, Fitzgerald suited back up against Franklin County for the first game of the classic. Fitzgerald had been sidelined with a fractured thumb. He netted 25 points, grabbed 12 rebounds, and dished out 4 assists. On the season Steven is averaging 27.2 points per game, shooting 60% from the field, and nabbing just over 8 rebounds. Fitzgerald is being recruited by a number of “Power 5” conferences, among many other DI schools.
Landon Powell – Pulaski’s 2017 combo guard is shooting almost 60% from the 3 on the season, lighting up the nets to average 20.3 points per game. Powell had 21 points (4-6) from 3, 4 assits, 4 rebounds, and 2 steals in Pulaski’s win over Franklin County. Powell is being recruited by a number of NAIA and NCAA DII-DIII programs.
Danny Butt – Butt is also a member of Kentucky’s 2018 class. Currently averaging 12 points per game, 4 rebounds a game, and dishing out dimes on almost every other trip up the floor, Butt is receiving college interest from the highest of NAIA levels to mid-major DI’s around the country.
Treyvon Sylvestor – When you first take a look at Sylvestor, you immediately ask yourself why this kid isn’t playing wide receiver or tight end instead of using his body to control the paint for Pulaski County. Sylvestor stands 6’6 and may tear the rim off the glass at some point this season. Treyvon is averaging 13 points per game and 4 rebounds. Many projections have him capable of playing at the small college basketball level.
Lexington Christian
The Eagles are 5-2 going into their game against Pulaski County. They were two points shy of knocking off defending state champs Dunbar two games ago.
Prospects:
Kyle Rode – One of Kentucky’s top 2019 prospects, Rode (F) is averaging 17 points per game, shooting 52% from the field, and averaging 5 rebounds per game. Rode has visited Indiana, Vanderbilt, and has received interest from many more.
Austin Hall – Averaging 18.3 points per game and 5 rebounds, Hall is a member of the 2018 class. The 6’4 forward had 3 blocks against Boyle County.
Nathan Harper – Sharpshooter! A senior, look for Harper to continue lighting it up beyond the arc. Harper is averaging 10 points per game, shooting the ball at a rate of 45% from 3.
