This contest was as good as advertised with a post-season feel. Players were energized from start to finish. It was a competitive battle that saw both teams lead multiple times througout. In the end, Bryan Station prevailed 84-74.
MVP: Terrance Murphy, Bryan Station. The 6’2 point guard led his team to victory, scoring a team-high 26 points on an efficient 11 of 17 from the field. Murphy is a jet quick PG who was hard to contain for the Blue Devils of Henry Clay. Terrance lived in the painted area, scoring with an assortment of finishes around the rim. When the game was close, Murphy was there to make big shot after big shot for his team.
Best Offensive Performance: Justin Mitchell, a 6’3 wing from Henry Clay put on an impressive offensive performance. Justin is physically gifted and was virtually unstoppable attacking the rim. He had numerous, And-1 opportunities. He scored 19 of his game-high 29 points in the first half. Mitchell scored in a variety of ways including lay ups, free throws, mid range pull ups, and even hit a 3. This junior has an impressive offensive arsenal.
Best Defensive Performance: Warren Braeden, Bryan Station. Warren led his team with 5 blocks and altered many others. Braeden showed good patience and stayed discipline versus the shot fake. He did an excellent job of blocking shots without fouling.
Play of the Game: The play of the game was a transition, 2-hand slam by Warren Braeden of Bryan Station. Coming off a turnover and a great pass by teammate Eric Boone, this play was a huge momentum play for the Defenders.
Best Role Player: Jalen Burbage, the 6th man for the Bryan Station defenders played a huge part in their victory. Jalen totaled 14 points on 5 of 9 shooting, including 3-6 from deep. He provided instant offense off the bench as well as energy and great effort.
Best Intangibles: Keaston Brown, Henry Clay. It was very easy to tell that he’s a coach’s son. Brown’s toughness and competitiveness stood out after the first couple of possessions. He possessed a high basketball IQ and made the right basketball play throughout the game. Keaston set excellent screens as well as taking a nice charge.
Best Under-the-Radar Performance: David Demarcus of Bryan Station was solid all night for the victorious team. His game isn’t very flashy but yet very efficient. Demarcus was a key piece of the puzzle for the Defenders finishing with 13 points and 9 rebounds.
Best Underclassmen: Keaston Brown a 5’10 sophomore SG from Henry Clay is one to keep an eye on. Very smart, tough, competitive player who scored 19 points in a losing effort.
Best Shooter: Jalen Burbage of Bryan Stations. Jalen finished 3 of 6 from beyond the arc coming off the bench as a 3 point specialist. Burbabge made several important shots to stretch the Defender’s lead.
Best Passer: Eric Boone from Bryan Stations led with a game-high 6 assists . Boone was great at penetrating, drawing the help defender and finding open teammates. Eric was lethal in transition. His quickness and ball handling ability broke down defenders , leading to easy scoring opportunities for his teammates.
