The talent drew the attention of several college coaches incuding Kentucky State University, Midway University, University of the Cumberlands, and Rio Grande.
TNG Prep jumped out early to a 19-10 lead after deploying a run and jump, full court pressure defense that caused several early turnovers. After a timeout and adjustments by Vision Prep Head coach Cameron Jackson, Vision Prep went on a 7-0 run. For the majority of the first half, both teams were trading baskets with TNG taking a halftime lead 35-30.
The second half was much of the same with TNG Prep leading by a small margin. Vision Prep was resilient throughout the 2nd half when TNG looked to be pulling away on a couple of occasions.
A late 3 pointer by Bernard Jones for the Sharks of TNG Prep pushed them ahead by 3 and Vision never recovered. TNG Prep won a competitive basketball game, 70 -64.
MVP: Antwavon ‘Pig’ Williams TNG Prep. Pig led his team victory finishing with 31pts, 7 rebs, 3 assists and 4 steals. He was able to score from all three levels on the floor. Williams has excellent quickness and strength in which he used to he advantage. Pig was also tenacious defensively applying on the ball pressure. He showed his versatility and used his strength to defend in the post area as well.
Best Offensive Performance: Antwavon ‘Pig” Williams TNG Prep. Williams showcased an offensive game that included quick drives to the rim, mid range pull-ups, and 3-point shots. The ability to score at all three levels is a rarity in today’s game. In addition, he shot 8-10 from the free-throw line.
Best Defensive Performance: Glenroy Rolle Vision Prep. Role a 6’7 PF from the Bahamas served as the rim protector from Vision. Rolle had a number of blocks and altered shots throughout the contest. Glenroy, a raw athlete showed defensive awareness by rotationg from the weak side swiping shot attempts. Additionally, he pulled down double-digit rebounds.
Play of the Game: Bernard Jones TNG Prep. With the scored tied at 59 with under 3:00 minutes to play, Bernard Jones hit a dagger three point shot! This go-ahead 3 was the deciding factor of the game as Vision Prep never recovered.
Best Guy Off the Bench: Chris Drabo Vision Prep. Drabo the 6th man for Vision Prep scored 8pts in which he showed a knack for slicing through the defense to finish at the rim. The 6’3 shooting guard exhibited good defensive skills with his quickness.
Best Intangibles: TNG Prep Bench. Exhibited valuable qualities that cannot be quantified in which had an important impact on the game. What stood out was their enthusiasm, sportsmanship, and positive support for teammates subbing in and out. On numerous occasions they were cheering “Defense”, urging their teammate to get a stop.
Best Under-the-Radar Performance: Dennis Robinson TNG Prep. Poured in 15pts to go along with 7 assists, 5 rebs, and 5 steals for the Sharks of TNG Prep. Robinson used his quickness, strength and low center of gravity to beat defenders off the dribble. Dennis lived in the paint throughout the contest. Robinson was also a pesky defender and was physical in traps causing turnovers.
Best coaching decision/strategy: Randy Casey, Head Coach TNG Prep. Coach Casey deployed a full court, run and jump defense in order to use his team quickness and athleticism. Coach Casey’s decision helped mitigate the size advantage of Vision Prep.
Best Passer: Tyler Wethington Vision Prep. 5’9 PG demonstrated good vision and delivered accurate passes from a variety of angles. Tyler was unselfish passing up good a good shot for a great shot for his teammates.
Best Aspect of the Environment: The Event. And 1’s Talented Youth Basketball Association (TYBA). In its inaugural year, hosted several talented prospects along with having a number of college coaches in attendance. This event was a valuable exposure opportunity for the players.
