Taveion Hollingsworth, Paul L. Dunbar (2017)
The Western Kentucky University signee has jumped up to the #1 player in the state’s 2017 class in many different state rankings. After helping Dunbar win the state championship last season, Taveion is almost certain to improve off of his 21 points per game last season. Dunbar won it’s first game against Woodford County 81-42. In that game Hollingsworth netted 36 points.
Pedro Bradshaw, Russellville (2017)
Bradshaw committed to Belmont University during the off-season and looks to help lead Russellville to the sweet sixteen. Bradshaw averaged 21.1 points per game last season at 57% from the field along with 12.2 rebounds per game.
Chris Vogt, Graves County (2017)
Breaking almost every blocking record the state of Kentucky has ever seen, Chris Vogt may find himself Mr. Basketball at the end of the season if more records continue to break. Kentucky loves to name Mr. Basketball candidates who have a knack for record breaking. The Northern Kentucky University commit broke records for blocks in a season with 190 and in a game with 17. He also averaged 17 points per game. Vogt stands 6’11.
Tray Hollowell, University Heights (2017)
Stat filler! Hollowell averaged 27 points, 7 rebounds, and 7 assists last season for University Heights. Hollowell is considered one of the best available players in Kentucky. Look for his numbers to go through the roof this year, making him a legitimate contender for Mr. Basketball.
Peyton Broughton, North Laurel (2017)
Eastern Kentucky University was fortunate enough to get the commitment from this Mr. Basketball candidate from North Laurel. Broughton averraged 22.5 points per game last season and is the all-time leading scorer at North Laurel with 2,156 points.
Tavin Lovan, Franklin-Simpson (2017)
30 points, 8 rebounds, 5 assits, 7 steals. That was Lovan’s stat line in his first game of the season. So it’s easy to see what makes him a candidate for Mr. basketball. Lovan averaged 26 points per game last season, tops in the region. He was also 2nd in rebounds.
Cole VonHandorf, Covington Catholic (2017)
Von Handorf is the all-time winningest player at Covington Catholic and has committed to play at Fairmont State University. He averaged 17 points per game last season and was a 2nd Team All-State selection last year.
Tony Jackson, North Hardin (2017)
The 6’5 guard is receiving interest from over a handful of college basketball programs. North Hardin has the ability to be one of the best teams in the state. If Jackson can get them there for the first time since 2010, expect him to be in the running.
Trevon Faulkner, Mercer County (2018)
It’s not often a underclassman is in the running, but if anyone has a chance, it’s Trevon Faulkner. The junior is already getting college offers from all over. Faulkner averaged 19 points per game while shooting 40% from three last season.
