Hoke was the first strike opening the game on an 8-0 run however 71st responded with a run of its own and would keep the lead throughout the night. Hoke would make a final in the 4th and the tams would remain close until the final minutes of the game with 71st capitalizing on some Hoke County miscues that would allow them to leave with the win.
Best Prospect: Without a doubt 71st HS 2018 Guard Zion Autry was the best prospect on the floor, although he didn’t have his best night shooting the ball his talent still showed. At about 6’4 with a strong frame he has no issue mixing it up with the bigs inside but is quick and athletic enough to match up with guards.
Best Guard: This one ended in a tie, 71st Senior Guard Jamon Raeford won the first half of the game, coming up with steals that turned quickly into transition dunks. He’s a perfect fit for the 71st as they like to push the tempo and constantly pressure guards, his play was a big reason why 71st came away with the win. The 2nd half belonged to Hoke County Senior Guard D’coda Cummings , the first time these teams met up he went for 30 Points so this time it was clear this time that 71st had a game plan specifically for him. Regardless he still finished with 19 Points on the night, he handles pressure very well and also has an advanced body for a high school player, understands how to create space well and possess a smooth shooting stroke.
Best Big: Hoke County Senior 6’6 Silas Love took the award for this one, he finished with 21 Points and 14 Rebounds on the night, although he still has some room to grow he was very productive throughout. He has a very long wingspan that he uses to block shots as well as solid athleticism that helps him make plays above the rim.
Best Shooter: 71st HS Senior Ricardo Rubio-Santiago was the best shooter on the floor without a doubt, he knocked down 3 treys in the game but each one was highly contested and difficult. One in particular that was impressive was a three pointer from the corner where the defender fouled him and he was given the opportunity to complete the four point play.
Best Play: The play of the game has to go to Zion Autry, with time expiring a teammate threw the ball off the backboard and Zion showed off his athletic ability by completing the dunk and making the 71st crowd go crazy!
