Continue ReadingSenior point guard, Christian Montague of Chaminade-Julienne Catholic High School suffered a knee injury in late, January of 2016 where he tore his ACL and meniscus. Christian has been playing varsity all four years of his high school career. His freshman year, he averaged only 1.4 points. His sophomore year, he averaged 9.3 points. His junior year, before he went down with a season ending knee injury, he averaged 14.1 points. Christian is now into his senior year and he is off to a great start averaging 18.5 with only two games down. Montague has interest from Liberty, Akron, UD, Wright State, and Miami Oxford and has offers from Johnson and Wales University in North Carolina. I asked Montague how he feels about being able to come back and help his team and he responded with: “It feels good to be playing again in an actual game with my teammates. The injury just made me more thankful for the abilities I have to play the game of basketball”.
Montague is not the only thing the Eagles have going for them. They have a young guard who can contribute as well. Milton Gage brings his A game every time. The sophomore began playing varsity as a freshman at Chaminade-Julienne Catholic High School. The point guard brings energy in every game. He will apply full court pressure and he will run the floor on offense. He can shoot the deep ball if he is open, but his strength is getting into the paint and shooting a floater. The point guard also assist the bigs on the boards by attacking the glass. His aggressiveness and energy keeps him on the floor. Milton said “I’m blessed to have the opportunity to have played varsity as a freshman so coming into my sophomore year, I have more confidence and I am comfortable with the tempo and flow of the game. I knew I would be backing our senior guards Phariz Watkins, Christian Montague and Jacquel Freeman-Parks up so I had to hit the weight room heavy over the summer and work on my overall game.”
The 5’11 guard helps his team play the lanes when he applies pressure on the basketball. His pressure allows teammates to jump passes with confidence in their ability to get the for sure steal instead of getting beat to the basket. He is not all defense though. The point guard can also score the basketball by slashing into the lane and shooting the open three. He has not had a big scoring night this season only averaging 5.5 points a game but he contributed 9 points to the 53-36 win over Springfield Shawnee. The sophomore is definitely something to keep an eye on as he progresses his game through the rest of the season and his high school career.
