Commitment Report: Peyton Broughton (2017)
Prep Hoops KY caught up with North Laurel senior guard and Mr. Basketball candidate Peyton Broughton and talked about his commitment to Eastern Kentucky University.
Broughton and the Jaguars are off to a hot start early in the Kentucky high school basketball season at 6-0. Broughton is averaging 33.2 points per game, shooting a red hot 61.5% from the field.
PHKY: What stood out to you about Eastern Kentucky University?
PEYTON: “EKU is close to home. They also have a few of the degree programs I’m thinking about going in to. As a basketball program, I felt like they are going in the right direction and we’ll have a great chance to win the OVC and play in the NCAA tournament. It just seemed like the right place for me to be the next 4 years.”
PHKY: What other schools were recruiting you?
PEYTON: “I had 15 division 1 offers. My final four schools were EKU, UAB, UNC Asheville and Clemson.”
PHKY: How do you feel you’ll be able to contribute at Eastern Kentucky University coming into your freshman season?
PEYTON: “I feel like after I get on campus in July and after all of preseason working out and getting a feel for things, I’ll be able to come in and do whatever coach needs me to do. Score, rebound, defend. Whatever I need to do to help the team.”
PHKY: Have you thought about what you plan on studying?
PEYTON: “As of right now I’m not 100% sure what I’m gonna study. It will either be accounting or physical therapy.”
PHKY: This is your senior season at North Laurel. What are you goals and expectations before heading off to Eastern Kentucky?
PEYTON: “For my team this year our goal is to win district and region. We all wanna get to Rupp. I think we have the pieces this year to do that and our coaches are putting us in the right situations to do so. Personally, Mr. Basketball would be an awesome achievement for me. I’ve started high school ball since I was in 8th grade. It’s something I’ve always worked toward. But my main focus and goal is to get my team to Rupp, winning Mr. Basketball would be a bonus to a great year.”
