Purvis has had “heavy interest” from Centre along with Transylvania University, but when Centre offered him a scholarship on Friday, he knew he wanted to be a Colonel.
“Centre has been there throughout the whole process,” Purvis said. “They started recruiting me last year and that’s something I really appreciated. They’ve been very successful lately, which I like. This year they have a young team so I feel as though if I go to practice next year and play well I could have an immediate, good impact. It’s also a great school which is one of the biggest aspects of it to me. It is renowned in Kentucky for its academics and that’s something both my parents and I looked at very seriously. Also, both of my parents attended Centre so it is a family thing to go there.”
Purvis, a senior a part of the Class of 2017, is averaging 14.5 points and 8.0 rebounds per game so far this season. He and his Centurions team is 9-2 overall on the year and leads all of Region 7.
“The season has started off well for me,” Purvis stated. “For only having practiced 3-4 times due to football, I’ve played pretty well. My team has been outstanding so far. We feel as though this is the best team we have ever had. I do whatever our coach needs me to. For the most part, I score and rebound for our team and alter shots. I also can pass the ball well out of the post or off the dribble. I try and get my teammates the ball when they’re hot.”
Not only is Centre getting a good basketball player, but they’re also receiving an outstanding student.
“I have a 3.9 cumulative unweighted GPA and a 32 on the ACT, so I like to think I’m a good student who worked hard to get to where I am,” Purvis added.”
Purvis and CAL return to action on Dec. 27 against East Jessamine in the Henry County Invitational at Henry County High School.
