The Lightning (9-0) stayed perfect thanks to 15 points from Delshawn Green and 11 from Jarvis Martin. Ft. Myers (5-2) picked up 22 points from Nick Gentleman.
MVP: Delshawn Green (Lehigh)
13 of Delshawn Green’s team-best 15 points came in the second half. He helped the Lightning get off to a 9-0 run to open the third quarter after the team trailed 28-19 at the break. Only a sophomore, the 6’2″, 180-pounder showed up in crunch time on both sides of the ball for Lehigh.
Best offensive performance: Nick Gentleman (Ft. Myers)
Ft. Myers starts and ends with senior center Nick Gentleman. The 6’6″, 200 lb. 2017 prospect had 22 points in this one, 11 in the first half and 11 in the second half. He also brought in 12 rebounds, recorded three blocks and had a steal. Gentleman is good down low and can shoot the jumper with ease.
Best defensive performance: Jarvis Martin (Lehigh)
Jarvis Martin was dependable for Lehigh, adding 11 points on the night. He flashed his defensive prowess against the Green Wave attack. At 6’5″, 210 lbs., the length, speed and effort is there from the senior. Martin is the most seasoned player on the Lightning roster.
Best guy off the bench: Michael Roberts (Ft. Myers)
Only a sophomore, Michael Roberts had four points and five rebounds in this one. He had a huge layup before the second quarter buzzer to put the Green Wave ahead by nine points at the half. Roberts is a heads up player who hustles. The shots weren’t falling, but they will.
Best intangibles: Bershard Edwards (Lehigh)
Bershard Edwards may have only had six points, but he dished out some ridiculous passes. He found open shooters often, especially in the second half when Lehigh really picked up the speed and played focus basketball. The junior is very smart and confident running the point.
Best under-the-radar performance: Simon Wilbar (Ft. Myers)
A 6’8″ sophomore, Simon Wilbar is still growing into his lengthy frame. However, he can do things that surprise you, like shoot from outside. He had seven points in this one and proved his inside and outside presence. Wilbar is going to get more comfortable as the season goes on.
Best underclassmen: Malik Martin (Lehigh)
Malik Martin had nine points in this game. He really performed well for a sophomore. In the Lehigh rotation, Martin is a core guy that the Lightning can lean on in big situations. Look for him to mature even further this season.
Best catch and shoot guy: Delshawn Green (Lehigh)
I know Green was listed as the MVP earlier in this piece, but he was also the top 3-point shooter in this game. He hit two clutch 3’s in the third quarter and a couple of long jumpers in the second half as well. This kid can flat out shoot.
Best energy guy: Quan Martin (Lehigh)
Junior guard Quan Martin was quiet until the fourth quarter. He came out fast with a ferocious dunk on a perfect alley-oop pass from Edwards. Martin finished with seven points and brought endless energy to the Lightning offense.
