10 Best: Bell Creek vs. Tampa Prep
Tampa Prep played its first back to back of the season against Bell Creek on Saturday.
The Terrapins improved to 4-0 with an impressive 65-22 win over the Panthers. Christian Schach led Tampa Prep with 14 points while Charles Scriven had 13 and Trey Sibert scored eight. Starters Amari Goulbourne (rest) and Jaren Phillips (knee) sat out.
MVP: Charles Scriven (Tampa Prep)
Charles Scriven has taken advantage of a key opportunity. The senior starter shined against Bell Creek with 13 points and 10 rebounds. He routinely made smart decisions and made his presence his felt from both inside and outside of the paint. Scriven is a sound player who Tampa Prep will use a ton. He didn’t play much a year ago due to a foot injury and an ongoing illness.
Best offensive performance: Trey Sibert (Tampa Prep)
Junior forward Trey Sibert is a player I’ve seen many times, including in AAU season with Skills Center Elite and last season at Tampa Prep. The forward had eight points in this one all coming in the second and third quarter. He attacked at will during stretches and even had an alley-oop dunk in the second quarter on a perfect pass from Isaac Ward.
Best defensive performance: Gabriel Sharp (Tampa Prep)
A freshman earns the nod as the best defender in this game. Gabriel Sharp had six points in this game and missed a couple of open looks, but he kept fighting on defense. Sharp is an up and coming 2020 prospect that fits the mold of a Tampa Prep contributor. His game will expand as the season progresses.
Best guy off the bench: Jaden Gray (Tampa Prep)
Jaden Gray is another freshman who gave the Terrapins quality minutes. He had two points in this game, coming in the third quarter, but he had good intensity when he was on the floor. He hustled on both ends.
Best intangibles: Trey Sibert (Tampa Prep)
Trey Sibert was hands down the most athletic player on the court on Saturday. His range and burst upcourt is the real deal. There’s no wonder why he continues to get looks at the next level. Sibert will be at his best when Phillips and Goulbourne return, but for now, he’s someone Tampa Prep has to enjoy having featured.
Best under-the-radar performance: Jared Walker (Tampa Prep)
A lengthy sophomore, Jared Walker showed poise as an outside shooter against Bell Creek. Walker had six points and didn’t shy down from taking a tough contested shot. He’ll be a player the Terrapins use quite a bit.
Best underclassmen: Isaac Ward (Tampa Prep)
The freshman drew the start with Goulbourne inactive. Isaac Ward made fancy passes all game long as he finished with seven points and 10 assists. His heads up mindset is big and Ward is a player that will continue to get better and be counted upon.
Best catch and shoot guy: Christian Schach (Tampa Prep)
Transferring over from Steinbrenner, Christian Schach picked a great landing spot in Tampa Prep. The junior is someone I know well from his time at our expo in September and with Skills Center Elite. He had a game-high 14 points which included four 3’s. Don’t leave Schach open or he’ll make you pay.
Best energy guy: Jomo Cousins (Bell Creek)
Bell Creek’s heart and soul in this one was senior center Jomo Cousins. With leading scorer James Gaddie sidelined due to a injury, Cousins played the top leadership role with 12 points. He made it a point to get to the line often and looked strong in the post.
