It’s been a privilege to watch Dakari Johnson over these last few years, from a middle schooler shooting in an empty gym with his dad on a Saturday to now a high school Junior playing in big time games where there are no seats and its standing room only. Over these years I’ve probably only seen this young man smile maybe twice, off the court I rarely hear him speak beside yes sir and no sir. He’s a very respectful young man and works extremely hard in the classroom and on the court so I was pleased to hear that a school finally took notice of this when Longwood University extended a scholarship offer to him recently.
It’s always interesting to see how a player adjust to a new setting, and many had questions of how he would perform at a new school when he transferred in to Village Christian. Well to start the season he’s had, 25 Points vs Weddington, 17 Points vs Northwood Temple and 18 Points vs Trinity Christian with his squad coming up with wins in every game to start the season undefeated. Not only has he produced on the offensive end of the floor but defensively he has gotten after it as well, limiting opponents to difficult shots and coming up with steals and deflections.
As of now Longwood University is the only school that has offered but we fully expect many more to join in as time goes on, he has played well in just about every big time matchup and is getting better each time we see him. He already has a body that shows that he spend his fair share of time in the weight room and academically is outstanding as well, so college coaches need to go ahead and give him a call because Dakari Johnson stock is definitely on the rise!
