This game was never close as the Crusaders flew past Lakewood 69-24.
Here are five things I took away from the preseason clash.
Knox shows off range
Highly touted senior forward Kevin Knox had only 10 points in the first half but he finished with a game-high 27 points.
Knox knocked down three triples in the second half after struggling to make jumpers. He had some really impressive dunks that got the fans out of their seats.
A Strickland and Carter backcourt
Nick Giorgi is the senior leader outside of Knox. He had 13 points and knocked down triples and chased down boards. On top of that, it was a pair of junior guards that really stood out
Tim Carter and Tai Strickland played very well on the night for the Crusaders. Strickland had eight points while Carter had some really nice attacking moves and assists. The duo will get better with more time together and that bodes well for Tampa Catholic.
Brown flashes
A freshman point guard finished as the leading scorer for Lakewood, 5’6″, 135-pound Bryce Brown had six points in this game.
He really took command of the offense and looked really poised for a freshman. Brown is going to be a leader for this team even at a young age.
White is a real talent
Only in his junior season, 6’6″ small forward Jalen White has all the tools to be a very good player. The Lakewood starter hung with Knox all night. He took him to the rack and won on offense and held up his end of the bargain a few times defensively.
Elmore is a riser
With so many new faces on this Tampa Catholic team, one of them is a freshman by the name of Isaiah Elmore. He finished with six points and used his length to haul in rebounds time and time again. He is going to surprise a lot of folks this season.
