If you take a quick glance at the stat sheet of Village Christian this season or even last season you will notice a few players that always scored quite a few points or even some players that had high rebounding numbers. Jordan Ratliffe the VMI commit and 2018 Guard Dakari Johnson usually put together some nice scoring numbers while Unsigned Senior Nassyr Daniels does his work on the glass. However there is one player that is very valuable to the team and is a very special player that you may not see as a standout on that state sheet and that is Senior Guard Josh Haymer.
Josh has one of the highest basketball IQ’s that I have come across in the past few years, he’s not the tallest player, and not the most athletic so he depends on that IQ to outsmart opponents on a nightly basis. He is a gifted passer and very unselfish, the majority of the time when you watch him play you will see him turn down his own shot to give the ball to a teammate. It should be noted that although he is an unselfish and pass first player he does have the offensive ability to score the ball without a doubt. One game in particular that stands out to me is last year’s matchup with Trinity Christian for the Pilgrim cup where he went for 20+ in the first half of the game.
Out of all the attributes that I truly like about Josh Haymer, the one that stands out the most to be is his ability to defend. It doesn’t matter what team Village Christian is playing, Josh is more than likely taking on the challenge of guarding the best offensive player. He has very good lateral quickness and quick hands as well as doing a nice job of communicating with teammates, plain and simple, Josh is a player you want to have on your team if you’re a coach or a teammate. Recruitment wise he has already taken an unofficial visit to Liberty University but other than that his recruitment has been fairly quiet. College coaches should definitely stop in to Village Christian to check him out, he has a very high ACT score and is an A student in the classroom as well as being a high character young man.
