Last season Fayetteville Academy shocked quite a few teams that they matched up with, with the addition of three starting guards, they had quite a bit if success against the oppositions backcourt. John Michael Wright was a bulldog for the squad, scoring the ball and providing some good defense, while Jon Gauer did his thing as well, scoring the ball at a high level and showing off his athletic ability on both ends of the floor. This season the Eagles have added two bigs to bolster their frontcourt but if they will have a chance to win games against some of the top 2A schools in the state, they will need stellar play from Senior Demetrius Jones on a nightly basis.
What makes him special?
Jones transferred in to Fayetteville Academy from 71st HS prior to last year, once he came into the program you could tell that he was still feeling his way out. During the first game of the year he put together a very solid scoring performance against Freedom Christian with 14 points, after the season he was invited to the Basketball Elite Fab 40 camp and performed well against some of the top prospects in the state. Demetrius plays the game much bigger than he is, he does not mind mixing it up inside with bigger opponents and does a good job coming up with rebounds by using his positioning and athleticism . During a preseason scrimmage game against Trinity Christian he was outstanding on both ends of the floor providing constant defensive pressure while producing on the offensive end with pull up jumpers and finishes at the rim. The key for this young man will be to be consistent with his play on a nightly basis, he is more than capable with providing 10-15 PPG for his team, college coaches at the D3/NAIA and JC levels should keep an eye on him through the season.
