This year’s event has no shortage of star power in the building with players such as: Trevon Duval, Colin Sexton, Jarius Hamilton and many others participating in the event. However there was a player that many people outside of the state may not have not known about that didn’t waste much time at all in letting people in Georgia know how good is he and that is Donovan Gregory of Carmel Christian.
Carmel had one of the first games of the day and was matched up with Holy Innocents, a team from Georgia that features Senior Guard Cole Smith who would go on to finish with 22 Points on the night. Regardless of how well Smith played the game belonged to Donovan Gregory who put on absolute show for the fans and college coaches in attendance. Gregory previously played for Northside Christian Academy and during the summer time he played with Team United so he’s no stranger to big time games and matchups. Throughout this game he showed the athleticism that he has been known for over the years, finishing plays above the rim and throwing down dunk after dunk. Also he showed the midrange game and even stepped out to knock down the trey ball, at about 6’4ish he’s undersized for a college power forward but if he continues to improve on his perimeter skills he can be a very dangerous player at the wing. Defensively he did a solid job of defending the bigs that he was matched up against and even stepped and guarding the wings and guards. He has very quick hands and solid lateral quickness, does a good job of seeing the ball and the man, and last but not least using his wingspan and athleticism to be disruptive. Donovan would go on to finish with 36 Points and 8 Rebounds on the night while leading his team to a win over Holy Innocents.
