At 6’5″, 180 lbs., Cotti averaged 6.4 points and 4.7 rebounds for First Baptist last season. The team graduated four seniors in Tyler Dean, James Grimsley, Evan Tricker and Rokas Milasius from a group that went 16-9 and missed out on the playoffs. Prior to that, the Lions had made two straight Class 3A region final appearances.
For Cotti, he is a small forward who can get it going on both sides of the ball for First Baptist. Here’s how he breaks down his own game.
“Long, versatile wing that can shoot and slash. I’m comfortable with the ball in my hands and can create my own shot at the rim from the perimeter, a better set shooter than on the move,” Cotti told Prep Hoops Florida. “I like to shoot dribble pull ups in mid range. I’ve been working on my ball handling and off the dribble shooting this off-season.”
In talking about last season it was a tale of two halves for Cotti in his first big-time role on the varsity team.
The first half of the past season was good, I started and was averaging a double-double (10 points and 12 rebounds) up until Christmas break,” he said. “The second half didn’t go as well and my stats dropped. Through this, I learned to persevere and keep working hard no matter the circumstances.”
Cotti plays AAU ball for Team Speights. He took part in a couple of big tournaments with them a year ago and says he felt like he played pretty well. He plans to play for Team Speights again this year.
No offers have come his way just yet, but Clarkson and Oglethorpe are showing interest in his services. Cotti is going to be much more prepared this season after going through ups and downs as a junior. He knows what he needs to do to improve his game and has the skills to do it. Cotti is a fun 2017 prospect to watch.
