Last season, the 6’3″, 175-pounder averaged 2.5 points. 2.0 rebounds and 1.0 assists per game as the Crusaders made a deep playoff run that ended with a Class 4A state semifinal loss to Jacksonville Bolles. Tampa Catholic finished 26-5.
Giorgi had his best game of the season on Jan. 29 in a 76-61 win at rival Jesuit. He scored a season-high 10 points while connecting on 2-of-3 shots from long range.
“This past season was bittersweet,” he told Prep Hoops Florida. “We went a lot farther than my past years at TC, but we really were good enough to win states and part of that falls on me.”
How would Giorgi break down his own game?
“My offensive game is mostly based off the catch and shoot on the perimeter,” he said. “Spot ups and step backs off of two or three dribbles to set me up. I love to run in transition so I’m glad I landed at TC.”
When he isn’t training with his teammates at Tampa Catholic, he’s putting in the work behind the states with the founder/owner of Process Basketball, Akii Dean.
“Training with Akii has really helped my athletic ability,” Giorgi said. “I’m quicker and he’s really helped me on my pull ups off the dribble and he has gotten me comfortable with the ball in my hands. Also, working on taking people to the basket with a bunch of finishing moves.”
Giorgi doesn’t have an offer yet or any known interest, but he has a prime opportunity to really thrive in an expanded role at Tampa Catholic this season. Alongside Kevin Knox, Messiah Turner, Tai Strickland and Bentlee Sanders, Giorgi should find himself open more often than not. With more minutes come more points and chances for Giorgi to further his skills.
