Neuse Christian has been to back to back NCISAA Elite 8 State Tournament Games and last year lost at the buzzer on a last second shot to just miss the Final 4.
The Lions have graduated 10 players in the past 2 years including 4 from last year’s team. Neuse Christian has a rich tradition of Basketball which includes 12 State Final 4 Appearances, 5 State Championships, 1 National Championship, and have produced 14 College Basketball Players in the past 5 Years!
The 2016-2017 team returns 4 starters including one of the top players in the 2017 Class in 6’5 PG Kaleb Hunter. Kaleb is committed to UNC-Greensboro and averaged 28 points per game last year including a game high of 54 points. Kaleb is ranked #5 in the PrepHoopsNC 2017 rankings.
The Lions also have 2 other NCAA D1 Prospects in 5’9 3 point specialist Maurice Wilcox and 6’3 wing Erik Alvey. Controlling the middle is 6’5 senior big man Erik Anderson and sophomore defensive specialist 5’10 pure athlete David Mosley round out the starting 5 for the Lions.
Last year’s team finished 5th in the nation in scoring at 86.0 points per game with a school record 123 points scored in the first round of the NCSIAA State Tournament. This year’s team can still run but will rely heavily on their team defense to win games this season. The schedule is loaded this season with many of the top schools in the state.
