Green Hope High School had a very successful summer. They went to the NC State team camp in June and won the tournament at the end of the camp.
Green Hope went to Westover for their annual jamboree and went 6-2 only losing to garner twice by 3 and 4 points.
The summer overall record was 13-4.
Last season Green Hope High School finished 17-7 making it to the 2nd round of the 4A playoffs before losing to New Hanover.
Green Hope lost a few key seniors but have a lot of guys back. We started to play well down the stretch and the guys that really fueled that run are returning.
They expect to compete for a conference title this year and make some noise in the playoffs. The team is going to be a smaller team this year but should be one of the quicker teams Green Hope has had in quite some time.
They are lead by Senior Will Harkins. He is 6’2″ and plays anything from point to center for us. This is off to say, but he was a point guard/shooting guard his first 3 years. He has bulked up and can defend really well in the post and on the perimeter. He led us in scoring last year and should be a huge part of what we do.
The next player is senior Alex Clinkscales. Alex is 6’2″ and plays shooting guard for us. He was hurt at the beginning of the season last year but came on really strong late. He is a lefty that can score in bunches. He shoots the ball really well and can finish in traffic. He is very quick and jumps well.
Ryan Shaffer is a 6’4″ junior that plays small forward for us. He is one of the guys that stepped up late last year for us. He had a big summer and will be one of the top 3 scorers for us next year. He is extremely smart and a great shooter. He has really improved his ability to slash and finish in the paint.
The point guard will be Javontre (Chuck) Hills. He is 5’9″ and one of the quickest players I have seen. He is a pass first point and pushes that ball extremely well. He can finish well at the rim even with his size. Defensively he can stay in front of anyone and gets his hands on everything.
Some other guys that will have to contribute:
Senior Connor Munz 6’3″ forward
Senior Josh McVeigh 6’8″ center
Senior Connor Sutton 5’10” point
Soph PJ Fenton 6’4″ forward- could be a huge piece once the season starts.
