Carolina Day School returns six of their top nine scorers and both of their All-CAA Conference players from last year’s team that won the Wells Fargo WNC Holiday Classic’s Appalachian Division, finished 22-6, was the CAA regular season runner up, and earned the #2 seed in the NCISAA 2-A state tournament. The Wildcats are looking forward to another good season.
Top Returning players are:
G Tai Giger – Junior, 6’1″ – CAA All Conference, led team in scoring last year. A strong Point Guard, with great court vision who has been receiving Low D1 and D2 interest. Giger is ranked #43 in PrepHoopsNC 2018 rankings.
G/F Peyton Truesdale – Senior 6’3″ – CAA All Conference, 2nd on team in scoring last year. Truesdale is a Haywood County transfer from Pisgah High School who is in his second season at Carolina Day School. Smooth game with a good mid-range game. He is ranked #131 in PrepHoopsNC 2017 rankings.
F Shawn Austin – Senior, 6’4″ – led team in rebounding last year.
G Luke Rutherford – Senior 5’11” – led team in steals last year.
F Ben Lochen – Senior, 6’7″
G Raishaun Brown – Sophomore, 5’11”
Newcomer to watch:
G/F D’Angelo Elliot – Sophomore, 6’3″
Elliot is a transfer from NCHSAA 3-A public school Asheville High School who played as a freshman. Elliot is a long and athletic wing that should provide a boost off the bench for The Wildcats.
The Wildcats play in the Carolina’s Athletic Association. The CAA conference includes perennial powerhouse Christ School along with Asheville Christian Academy, Rabun Gap (Ga.) Nacoochee School, and Asheville School. The conference regular season and Tournament should come down to Christ School and Carolina Day School.
The Wildcats kick off their season in the Phenom Hoops Jamboree on Nov. 5th. Carolina Day is also putting the final touches on hosting an 8 team WNC Holiday Tournament here in Asheville, North Carolina right after Christmas.
