The 6’10”, 215-pounder committed to Florida Gulf Coast on Thursday as a preferred walk-on.
Rocuant says FGCU was the one school he wanted to be at.
“Instead of waiting to see if more offers came in I already had my mind made up.”
He also drew interest from some Ivy League programs including Princeton and Cornell while Stetson and Rutgers have expressed interest in him.
Despite the Wildcats finishing 10-15 this past season, Rocuant made big strides while averaging 12.5 points and 6.8 rebounds while shooting 55 percent from the field. He says it was a huge leap for him personally.
“My stats pretty much doubled and I was in a lot better shape than the year before. The biggest thing I’ve learned at Estero is the type of work ethic I need. Margens Desire was the one who paved the way for my work ethic.”
Here’s how he would break down his own game.
“As of right now I mainly just play the low post. I like my back to the basket in post-up opportunities. I’m working on incorporating more mid-range work into my game.”
Rocuant played AAU ball for both head coach Tommy Brown and the Florida Elite and head coach Adam Johnson and the Florida Evolution.
“I just started playing for both of these teams this summer. I have made huge progress by doing individual training sessions with Florida Southwestern coach Marty Richter and FGCU power forward Marc-Eddy Norelia.”
Ultimately staying locally intrigued Rocuant as he made his decision this week. He’s a rangy player who excels down low and with more seasoning under FGCU head coach Joe Dooley, this kid is on track for a nice role at the next level. He’s in for a stellar senior campaign as the Wildcats look to get back into the postseason.
