Wilson averaged 16.3 points, 3.8 rebounds and 1.3 steals per game as the Warriors finished 20-9 on the season advancing to the Class 3A region quarterfinal.
Calvary Christian fell to Seffner Christian 51-44 in that game, but Wilson has lofty goals this season after becoming a more vocal leader as a junior.
“Our goal this year is to make it to Lakeland and play in the final four and maybe the state championship.”
With 1,098 career points, Wilson is looking to reach the 1,500 point mark this season in his fourth year as a starter.
The 6’4″, 190-pounder totaled 10 or more points in all but five games (coming off an ankle sprain). That included nine games with 20 plus points including a 20-point performance in the region quarterfinal on 6-of-10 shooting from beyond the arc.
How would Wilson break down his own game?
“I would say that I’m a scorer at three different levels but do prefer to take the 3-pointer since it’s more than the 2- pointer. I love to play defense and love to make the hustle plays and take charges. In the off-season, I’m going to continue to increase my explosiveness, speed, and overall strength.”
The rising senior has played AAU ball for Team Under Pressure since the 5th grade. Wilson finished sixth in scoring at the UAA finals in July out of the 600 plus players that took part in the event.
“It was a great experience for me. I got to grow up and play with the same core of kids from the original 5th grade team which is what separated us from other teams this summer. We had a close bond that most other AAU teams didn’t have.”
Currently, Wilson holds two offers from Rider and Eckerd. He has also drawn interest from Lincoln Memorial, Wofford, Stetson, Yale, Columbia, Western Carolina and UNC Asheville.
This kid can flat out shoot from anywhere on the court. He doesn’t give up on plays and makes you work for every point on the defensive end. Expect more Division-I programs to send Wilson offers while a handful of Division-II schools try to persuade him to carry the load there.
