“Along with my parents and my high school head coach, we decided I should take an extra year to prepare myself to perform better in the classroom and on the court,” Beamer told Prep Hoops Florida.
After averaging 17.3 points, 9.2 rebounds and 3.4 assists this past season, the 6’6″, 205-pounder is looking to have a big upcoming year. The Gryphons went 26-4 last season and made it to the 8A region quarterfinals before losing to Bartow.
“We play some really difficult teams like St. Pete and will be in the City Palms Classic. Marcus Cohen, Bryce Workman and I are trying to lead our team to the school’s first state championship.”
Here’s how Beamer would break down his own game.
“My game is just based off hustle and working harder than anyone else on the floor. Points aren’t really the biggest thing in basketball and people who know the game will see that. But I’ve been named as one of the best shooters in the state and college coaches say maybe even the country. But I need to get a better handle on the ball, creating shots on the dribble and in open court.”
He started playing AAU ball for Team Speights this year and ended up as the team’s leading scorer with averages of 23.0 points and 7.0 rebounds per game.
Beamer says he’s gotten a lot more attention since playing with Team Speights.
“The exposure is phenomenal and to play in front of the top coaches in the country, all you have to do is perform.”
Right now, Beamer has three offers from Arkansas-Little Rock, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi and Southeast Missouri State. He’s also drawn interest from Auburn, Rutgers, BYU, Murray St., Old Dominion, Arkansas, FGCU and Winthrop.
Beamer has time to come into his own and really improve his all-around game with one more high school season and a prep year after that. The decision will pay dividends as he looks to help Sickles make a deep postseason run. He’s loaded with breakout potential.
