Continue Reading2019 recruit BJ Mack helped lead Charlotte Catholic High School to the 2016 NCHSAA 4-A State Chamoionship this past season. He also surprised much of the Charlotte area recruiting world by leaving Charlotte Catholic to transfer to Charlotte Christian over the summer.
Mack, a 6-foot-8 forward averaged 11.5 points and 6.5 rebounds while shooting 54 percent. He was an All-conference pick and Third-team all-district pick. He was named a Fourth-team selection by the Charlotte Observer.
The big man played this summer with Team United of the Nike EYBL circuit. PrepHoopsNC had the chance to catch up with the rising sophomore.
PrepHoopsNC: What are you’re goals for this upcoming season at Charlotte Christian?
BJ Mack: Goals for this high school season is to lead Charlotte Christian to a state championship and for next summer is to continue to get better and start looking at more schools.
PrepHoopsNC: What are the most important parts of your game?
BJ Mack: The most important part of my game is post and mid-range game. My game is a mixture between old school and new school big men. And examples is being able to dominate smaller player inside the paint with my back to the basket and being able face up and bring bigger and taller players out.
PrepHoopsNC: What are going to be the major factors in picking a college a few years from now?
BJ Mack: Things I will look for in making a decision on what school I choose is the educational programs, to make sure the school is the right fit for me and for it to be family oriented.
PrepHoopsNC: What schools have been in contact and which ones have offered?
BJ Mack: I have heard from Duke, North Carolina, NC State, Georgia, Middle Tennessee State, College of Charleston, Arizona, Georgetown, Xavier, Tennessee, Kentucky, Kansas, Florida, Florida State, Virginia Tech, Virginia, Wake forest, Clemson, Maryland.
BJ Mack: I have offers from Georgia, Middle Tennessee State, Virginia Tech, NC State and College of Charleston
PrepHoopsNC: What are some of the things that you need to work on do get to the next level and succeed?
BJ Mack: Somethings I need to work on is getting stronger, getting more explosive, learning new position and expanding my basketball IQ.
