Morgan is a rising senior at Ardrey Kell High School outside of Charlotte He verbally committed to North Florida University before the summer and is ranked in the top 30 by PrepHoopsNC for 2017. We spoke with Wes about how his summer is going and what is in store for next season.
PrepHoopsNC- What are your goals for the summer and next season at your high school?
Wes Morgan- My goal for this summer is to put on about 10 more pounds of muscle and continue to improve my jump shot even more to make it more deadly. My goal for this high school season is the average at least 20 points and 10 rebounds and help my team get back to the state championship and win!
PrepHoopsNC-What was key in deciding on North Florida?
Wes Morgan-Making the early call for North Florida was honestly a no brainer to me. UNF is statistically the number 1 three point shooting school in he entire nation.. They averaged over 12 made threes a game last year and attempted 29.5 threes a game on average. Shooting threes is what I do at such a high level. Another reason as to why I chose North Florida was how honest and true Coach Driscoll and the coaching staff is. They are a big time Christian staff, they’re not like most college coaches. I loved that Coach Driscoll would ask me about other things besides basketball and we would have life talks. He sends me Bible verses as well for me to read and it really helps me and the team with our lives. I also know the two other commits that committed early before me they’re great guys and we talk almost everyday.
PrepHoopsNC- What are the most important parts of your game and can you explain your game to me?
Wes Morgan- The most important part to my game are definitely my quick release and my shooting ability. I’m always ready to shoot and I get it off quick and shoot it at a high-level. My height at being 6’7 and ability to put the ball in the basket is what separates me from most players.
PrepHoopsNC- What are some things do you feel you need to work on?
Wes Morgan- I feel I need to work on defense as does everybody. Right now I’m working on being able to guard the one through five and being able to lock down the best player and do whatever it takes to help my team win.
