The rising senior averaged 15.0 points and 5.0 rebounds last season as the Patriots went 14-8 and advanced to the 5A region quarterfinal before losing to Suncoast. Here’s what he had to say about his junior campaign.
“This past season was a growing season for me. I had to learn how to lead a team on and off the court. I had a lot of high Division-I football players as my seniors and they taught me how to work hard and to never shy away from the weight room.”
How would Lamont break down his own game?
“I’m a shooter than can finish in transition. I run the floor pretty well and I have one-two dribble pull up. I’m looking forward to getting better on the defensive end of the court and also facilitating for my teammates.”
Lamont plays on the UAA circuit for coach Rich Belton and Team Breakdown.
“Although it has been a rough summer for us we are starting to come together. This is my first summer with the team because I broke my foot last summer and was out the entire summer session.”
He says his foot is back to 100 percent.
On Wednesday, Lamont earned his first offer from American. He says American head coach Mike Brennan and assistant coach Matt Wolf have stayed in contact with him often.
“That first offer felt amazing. It was really a weight lifted off my shoulders. I appreciate the staff at American for the opportunity.”
Lamont also has drawn interest from Memphis, Navy, Wofford, Ball State and West Point.
With more time to prove himself this season, Lamont should start to see the offers come in. He’s filling out and starting to attack the rim more often than not. As a sharpshooter, he can hang with the best of them, but finding his way inside will be his recipe for success. Expect more Division-I schools to give him looks here soon.
Lamont ranks No. 97 in Prep Hoops Florida 2017 rankings.
