“I like to drive the most,” Jones said. “I also like to shoot. I am a scorer, I do like to defend – especially against the people y’all (us at PrepHoops) be ranking top in the state.”
Jones played a dominant role in the Purples’ success last season. The versatile athlete averaged 12.3 points and 10.1 rebounds per contest – a double-double machine. Jones calls last season a great year.
“We had a great season and also had a great run,” Jones stated. “We were very talented and worked hard everyday to try to get where we wanted to be. We also had our ups and downs, but we always came together as a team. We felt like no one could touch us – not even the No. 1 team in the state (Paul Lawrence Dunbar), but things happen.
“I still feel like we shouldn’t have lost, but we are coming for that State Title next year. I promise.”
Jones says his goal for this upcoming season is the same that it has always been – win state.
“My No. 1 goal for the past three years is to win state,” he told me.
Jones played for We All Can Go AAU this summer. Before suffering a bang-up, he says he played good while he was playing.
“I played for WACG,” he said. “I played good when I started out with them, then I kind of ended bad because I sprained my ankle and I’ve been playing on a hurt ankle.”
Although Jones doesn’t have any offers yet, he has received interest from Northern Kentucky, Kentucky Wesleyan, Austin Peay and some Division II schools. He says coaches and programs should start to reach out because he works hard.
“I always work hard, and most of the time that’s all it takes,” he noted.
In the classroom, the player says he is a good student.
“I’m a good student,” Jones said. “I have good grades and a good GPA, and I always work hard.”
Jones has what it takes to play at the next level, and he plans to show that this season.
