“I’m a scorer, but I like to get my teammates involved a lot,” Shelton said. “I pass a lot but when I get the ball I’m looking to score.”
Shelton played a solid role in the Eagles’ success last season. The player averaged 4.8 points and 2.0 rebounds per game and dished out a significant amount of assists. Although he may of not put of record-breaking numbers, the athlete says he is just trying to get a ring.
“My goals for this upcoming high-school season is like every other kid’s in Kentucky – I want to make it all the way to Rupp Arena and try to get me a ring,” Shelton stated.
Shelton played for two different AAU clubs this summer – Team Manimal in the beginning and Attucks Wolfpack in the end. He says he played well all summer.
“At the first two live periods, I played for Team Manimal in the Adidas Gauntlet,” Shelton told me. “Then I finished the summer in July playing for Attucks Wolfpack from Hopskinsville, Ky. I played solid this whole summer.”
Although Shelton doesn’t have any offers yet, the scorer says he has been shown interest from Miami Ohio, Samford, Deleware, Rice, Lipscomb, Tennessee State, IUPUI, New Orleans, South Alabama, Georgia Southern, Tennessee Tech and Eastern Kentucky, and says more programs and coaches should start to reach out because he plays hard.
“My game should catch coaches’ eyes because I play hard, get my teammates involved and stay in attack mode,” Shelton noted.
In the classroom, Shelton also works hard.
“My grades are good,” he stated. “I had a 3.2 GPA last school year. Yes, I do work hard in the classroom and I stay focused on what I need to do so I can get it done.”
Shelton is on a roll to play at the next level – and he is going to work hard to try and make that happen.
