A lot has changed since then with his athletic ability and high-flying dunks in traffic, he has developed a more complete game and is now a much better shooter and more of a leader.
Standing at 6-foot-3, Will Dillard is ranked as the 8th best prospect in North Carolina in the 2018 class by PrepHoopsNC. He has scholarship offers from Wake Forest, Charlotte , Old Dominion and Appalchain State. He had heard recently from Clemson, Virginia Tech, St. Joseph’s, Wichita State, and Western Carolina.
He plays for NCISAA powerhouse Greensboro Day and on the Nike EYBL circuit for Team CP3. He helped lead Greensboro Day to a state title his freshman year with 12 points and reached the semi-finals last season. “My goal for this summer is to start the transition more into a point guard roll and becoming more of a shooter, a better ball handler and a better passer. I am going to get better on the defense end and with communicating with teammates during the game. With my high school team I plan to increase my field-goal percentage and become a much better leader.”
Dillard draws comparisons to a young Russell Westbrook with his size, athleticism and defensive effort. He possesses a “dog mentality” that only a handful of players at his age I have seen in him. A tough as nails guard that is not scared to go at the rim and dunk on anyone that is in his way.
His older brother Reggie Dillard had a phenomenal prep career at Greensboro Day and played on the same Nike EYBL team, Team CP3 as Will. He now plays in the Big South Conference with Presbyterian College and averages 8.5 points per game and started all of his sophomore season.
Will Dillard is on the same path to college basketball as his older brother and will only continue to get better. ” I feel like the biggest things that I need to work on is preparing for the end of this second open period and upcoming school year is getting a little better at shooting the ball and being better in late game situations and making the correct play. Also becoming more and more of a leader on and off the court.
