The 6’1″, 180-pounder is set for an expanded role in his sophomore season at Dr. Phillips.
Poventud came up to the varsity squad in the playoffs as the Panthers finished last season with a 19-9 record. Riverview got the best of Dr. Phillips in the Class 8A region quarterfinals.
On top of his dedication to basketball, Poventud also plays volleyball for the Panthers. He’s an outside hitter on the team and interestingly enough he’s aiming to improve his outside shot the most in basketball.
He says it’s fun playing both sports and that volleyball definitely helps him with his jumping ability.
How would Poventud break down his own game?
“My shot has definitely gotten better in terms of my inside game, rebounding and quick pull-ups.”
He has no offers or interest yet, but Poventud has a lot of time on his side. The shooting guard showed off his all-around game in the tournament by chasing after rebounds, being unselfish as a passer on offense and making his opponent shots. He has solid attacking ability and will be a big factor at Dr. Phillips as a sophomore.
