Continue ReadingCannon School in Concord, North Carolina already had one of the best prospects in the 2018 class with Jairus Hamilton. Now they can add 6-foot-5 Qon Murphy, who has transferred to Cannon School for his junior season.
Ranked #13 in PrepHoops North Carolina’s 2018 class, Murphy averaged 13 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists last season at Hough HS just outside of Charlotte. On his decision to transfer to Cannon, Murphy said “Cannon just was the better school for me. Overall it wasn’t just the basketball aspect of it but how the school can get you prepared for college and the rest of your life. Basketball was just an add on to an already great decision academic wise.”
Cannon School finished 18-12 last season and lost in the first round of the NCISAA tournament to Charlotte Latin 69-67. The addition of Murphy, who is playing this summer with Team United will only help.
Qon reminds me a lot of University of South Carolina senior Sindarius Thornwell with his size and shooting touch. He can attack the basket and is hard to guard with his size. He is averaging 18 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists on the Nike EYBL circuit. “My game is an attacking mentality get to the basket and finish or make plays for others and being able to score.” He is a streaky shooter and is a beast on defense. He is a very versatile player that can score from anywhere on the floor. He shot 35% from behind the arc and 45% from the field last season.
UNC Charlotte and Hampton have already offered the powerful wing/shooting guard and he has heard recently from Clemson, NC State, Santa Clara and South Alabama. He was a big name during the second live period and it will only be a matter of time before he gets more offers
Joining up with 6-foot-8 Jairus Hamilton who is ranked #6 in our rankings for next season will almost guarantee Cannon School advancing further in the playoffs next season.
