McKelphin averaged 16 points, six rebounds and two assists per game last season. He had this to say about his junior year.
“This past season for me was pretty good. I improved my basketball IQ, stats, shooting and athleticism. I learned a lot from some of the older guys including how to be more vocal on or off the court. Seeing most of the seniors not get offers makes me want to work that much harder…
“I feel this year we will be decent. We have a young group, but I will lead us through it whether it’s defense, scoring, and playmaking for others.”
How would he describe his own game?
“I have a high motor and love to get out in the open court and jump above other defenders. I’m a good shooter and an improving defender. I’m looking forward to improving my 3 point shooting, dribbling and overall strength.”
McKelphin plays AAU ball for coach Rob Walker and the Tampa Titans.
“It’s going great. We recently won our last tournament and I feel I’m starting to get more comfortable playing with a new team that has been together since fifth grade. My training has been about getting in the gym working on shooting, doing pushups and dribbling drills at home. I’m going to start working out at 5 a.m. this summer.”
He currently has drawn interest from Lee University (Division-II) in Cleveland, Tennessee. Expect more D-II and D-III schools to show interest in McKelphin as the year progresses, he has the skillset to play at the next level.
