This past season, the Crusaders played with no seniors but still managed a 20-9 record and a Class 3A region semifinal appearance. Jorden, who stands at 6’6″, 192 lbs. averaged 7.4 points, 3.9 rebounds and 1.6 blocks per game.
“Last season was really a wake-up call for me and my outlook on the game of basketball. Being at Seffner, there were no seniors on the basketball team, but that doesn’t mean I didn’t have anyone to looked up to. People, like returning players and my Coach Sam Moorer are just a few examples of the people I greatly admired last season. I look to them for guidance and instruction on how to properly play this game and it has paid off immensely…
“Putting Christ at the center of it all is most important and my teammates have encouraged me to push harder every time I hit the floor.”
How would he break down his own game?
“As I’ve looked at film recorded in my AAU and high school season, I have noticed a lot of good things, at least in my game that come from hustling after every rebound and loose ball. And when I don’t hustle, I notice how much I’m not helping my team. I may not be a big scorer, but my defensive aspect is important to my team success…
“A few things I need to work on is to keep on hustling even when I am tired or just plain lazy and try to limit my fouls during the game. I’m usually called into the guard the biggest man and so fouling out would not benefit my team whatsoever.”
Jorden plays AAU ball for coach Rob Walker and the Tampa Titans.
“The Titans are very important to me because I’m a part of the first graduating boys class. We strive to be examples and leaders to our younger teams wherever we go. This year we have gained a few new players and we have become a family nevertheless. I wouldn’t trade my team for anyone or anything. We have had great success in major tournaments and I hope we continue to do so in July…
“We are unique parts that come together to create and tough team. Our defense leads to our offense and our mentality in exceptionally strong. I love my team and the kind of basketball we play together.”
There are no offers or interest yet for Jorden, but he’s striving to improve his overall game. His value as a shutdown defender is key and there should be Division-I and Division-II schools that start to look his way here soon.
