The 6’10 F proved he could do it all this past weekend at the EYBL session 2 in Indianapolis.
Carey is a man amongst boys in the paint. He’s extremely athletic and inherits his athleticism from his father Vernon Carey Sr, a former 1st round pick of the Miami Dolphins. He can sky for boards, aggressively slash to the rim and powerful on the interior. He also poses severe matchup problems with his long-range shooting ability. We love his quick leaping ability, high motor and ability to defend smaller players on the perimeter. His versatility sets him apart for his size. Carey has an incredible ceiling. His physical growth coupled with the transformation in his game makes him a very intriguing prospect. The scary thing is he’s still in the raw stage.
Carey’s talents garnered offers from Miami and Florida by Monday. His first offers since October of 2015. He also holds offers from Baylor and Georgia State. Carey is undoubtedly a High Major Plus prospect.
He feels his hard work is paying off.
“It feels great to be getting offers,” Carey said. “It’s a stepping stool to attain more offers. It’s just the beginning for me.”
Carey has sprouted five inches from last year. He’s only getting better.
‘’I worked on my game all last summer and did two-a-day workouts,” Carey said. “Seeing college scouts on the sidelines makes me play harder because you only get one opportunity.
Carey detailed where he sees himself at the next level.
“I want to play the 3,” Carey said. “I need to work on my handles to help transition to a small forward.”
But Carey has no early favorites at this point.
“I don’t have any standout schools to me this early in the process,” Carey said.
Carey is on a talent-rich Nike Team Florida 15U squad which has a legitimate shot at making the Peach Jam. He feels playing on an elite team is helping his recruitment.
“Playing for Nike Team Florida gives me exposure playing in the EYBL, which is the best circuit to be on,” Carey said.
Expect Carey to attract more offers shortly and make his presence felt on the circuit. He’s certainly a star in the making.
